A
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS:
The
IMF and the World Bank, the primary architects of neo-liberal globalization,
will be holding their annual joint meeting in Washington, D.C., from
September 28 October 4. During the meetings a week of convergence
has been called in which thousands of demonstrators and many diverse
organizations will coordinate actions in protest of the IMF and World
Bank and the policies of the U.S. government.
Some
organizations are focusing their actions against the pro-big business
policies of the IMF and World Bank, while some focus on more specific
issues such as the FTAA, U.S. intervention in Latin America, environmental
destruction caused by IMF and World Bank policies, and more. Actions
in Washington will include demonstrations at the U.S. Trade Representative's
office, outside the meetings of the IMF and World Bank, and others.
On
Saturday, September 29th, during the week of convergence the International
Action Center is organizing a protest against the reactionary program
of the Bush administration. Protesters will surround the White House
and make their voices heard to the racist, sexist, corporate ruling
class of the U.S. The convergence against the IMF/World Bank in Washington,
D.C. on September 28 - October 4 represents a unique opportunity in
Bush's new back yard to merge the struggle against the global domination
of corporations with the fight against Bush's right-wing policies. Together,
these two fronts can unite and multiply the strength of the movement.
In
order to effectively organize this massive action, the IAC will urgently
need volunteers in NYC and the Washington D.C. area to help with many
tasks including the distribution of fliers, phonebanking, selling books
and publications, writing email updates to protesters, media coordination,
and others. If you are available during any time period before or during
the week of convergence, please call or email the
