in New York City distrupt George Bush, say
'NOT ONE MORE LYNCHING'
two members of the International Action Center disrupted George
Bush while 100 people demonstrated outside as the Conservative
Party held a $500-per-plate lunch.
demonstration followed one Monday in Baltimore, where activists
remained vigilant in protest of Bush's execution of Shaka Sankofa
held in the disruption and at the demonstration read:
George Bush executed an innocent man: Gary Graham/Shaka Sankofa,
Graham/Shaka Sankofa: lynched for the crime of being Black,
remember Gary Graham's/Shaka Sankofa's last words: 'Abolish the
racist death penalty,' and
racist, anti-poor, anti-woman.
organizing for the demonstration included the National Organization
of Women, the International Action Center, NARAL, Housing Works,
the Campaign to End the Death Penalty, and Disabled in Action.
activists Judi Cheng and Scott Scheffer waited until Bush began
his speech, then held up signs and began chanting "George Bush executed
an innocent man: Gary Graham, End the racist death penalty." They
were roughly moved out of the room by secret service agents. The
activists joined demonstrators outside.
said, "We refuse to let George Bush get away with this
legal lynching of Shaka Sankofa/Gary Graham, who the whole world
knew to be innocent.
We will avenge Shaka's murder by intensifying our struggle against
the death penalty, for a new trial for Mumia Abu-Jamal, and against
this whole racist system.
here today represents hundreds and thousands of young and working
people who are organizing this summer to rock the Republican Convention
in Philadelphia and the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles to
tell both of the parties of big business 'Not one more lynching.'"
